Heavy clashes involving AU peacekeeping force in Somalia and insurgents has led to the death of about 15 people and over 40 others wounded. The deaths include government armed forces and some of the insurgents.
The incident follows the death of eight civilians when artillery weapons hit different villages in the capital especially the Hodan district. “I see five bodies lying in one place at the Bakara Market, where a mortar shell hit their house,” said Nasir Xashi, one of the local people. Four others including two children died in the Hodan district after traverse mortar smacked their house.Spokesman of the Somali insurgents Abdi rahin Addow claimed responsibility for the violence and killings. He told the local media they have killed at least seven soldiers including Ethiopian troops and TFG forces. But the Somali military has rejected the claim. “We overpowered the enemy of Somalia in our way of life when they attacked our bases and Amisom centers early in the morning,” Said Dahir Mohammed, spokesman of the Somali military said.It is believed that onslaughts from the Islamic insurgents on the African union troops especially at KM Junction sparked the violence. In a related development, Ethiopian troops heading towards Baido about 250km south of Mogadishu came under attacks from the insurgents near Buur-hakaba city. Details are still sketchy
