An explosion has hit a Nato-led military base in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, wounding four foreigners and three civilians, a military spokesman said.The blast struck Camp Phoenix, one of the main bases used by Western troops, early on Friday morning, Sergeant Kevin Bell said.Zemaray Bashari, a spokesman for the Afghan interior ministry, confirmed the attack.James Bays, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Kabul, said: "It's a place where there are large number of military installations."It is unclear whether those foreigners injured are military personnel, because there are a lot of contractors at that base."Police said US military vehicles were the target of the attack. The area had been sealed off by Western forces casualties were expected, he said.
Training facility
Camp Phoenix, on the outskirts of Kabul, is run by US forces, with some Nato member nations maintaining a presence there.It is also a base for the Afghan army, which is being trained by international forces in the hope it can take over the responsibility for fighting the Taliban.The camp occasionally comes under attack, mostly from rocket and mortar fire, though without casualties.
