Teresa Lewis was executed on September 23.

Teresa Lewis was executed on September 23, 2010, at 9 pm by lethal injection, at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt,[9][10]making her the 12th woman to be executed in the U.S. since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976[11][12] and the first woman in the state of Virginia to be executed since 1912 (the previous woman executed was Virginia Christian who died in the electric chair). Lewis is the first woman in Virginia to be executed by lethal injection.[13][14] Lewis is also the first woman to be executed in the U.S since Frances Newton in 2005,[15] and the second woman to be executed since the noted execution of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in 2002 in the state of Florida.[16] On September 17, 2010, Virginia governor Bob McDonnell decided to not stop Lewis upcoming execution,[17] stating: "Having carefully reviewed the petition for clemency, the judicial opinions in this case, and other relevant materials, I find no compelling reason to set aside the sentence that was imposed by the Circuit Court and affirmed by all reviewing courts".[18] An appeal was filed to the US Supreme Court for a stay of execution and subsequently rejected on September 21, 2010.[19] Lewis' supporters also stated that "Lewis is deeply remorseful and has been a model prisoner, helping fellow female inmates cope with their circumstances."[20] [21] Lewis herself had stated that "I just want the governor to know that I am so sorry, deeply from my heart. And if I could take it back, I would, in a minute ... I just wish I could take it back. And I'm sorry for all the people that I've hurt in the process."[22]

Governor McDonnell denied Teresa's petition for clemency on September 17, 2010. Without your help, Teresa will die on September 23, 2010.

The time is NOW to take further action to save Teresa’s life. We are not giving up. Let Governor McDonnell know that he must reconsider his unjust and inhumane decision. The button below will take you directly to Governor McDonnell's webpage for receiving emails:

Governor McDonnell, your decision to deny clemency completely ignores the fact that Teresa Lewis is borderline mentally retarded and had a dependent personality disorder, and that a life sentence was given to the man who has repeatedly stated that HE was the mastermind and that “The only reason I had sex with [Teresa] was for the money [and] to get her to ‘fall in love’ with me so she would give me the insurance money. . . . She was exactly what I was looking for.” Killing Teresa now, when this man was allowed to live, is so unfair and unjust that it cannot be permitted.

Or if you prefer: Call the Governor’s Office at 804-786-2211 and register your disapproval of his decision. Demand that Teresa be permitted to live.
