Bali bombers executed six years after

Amrozi Nurhasyim and Ali Ghufron, who are brothers, and Imam Samudra, were shot by firing squad on Nusakambangan island in central Java after midnight. The executions were reported by the television network TvOne, citing an unidentified source. The three never expressed remorse, even taunting relatives of victims at their trials five years ago. Fahmi Bachmid, the bombers' lawyer, said: "All of them have repeatedly said they will only ask pardon from God, not the president. This is their faith.'' Twenty-four Britons died in the co-ordinated attacks, and there were 88 Australians, more than any other nationality, among the victims. The three men were found guilty of planning and helping carry out the attacks on 12 Oct 2002, thrusting Indonesia onto the front lines in the war on terrorism. Supporters of the bombers staged protests in their home villages.
