Office of lawyer defending Greek boy's killers ransacked

ATHENS - Youths on Friday ransacked the office of a lawyer representing two policemen charged with fatally shooting a teenage boy whose death plunged Greece into a week of violence, a police source said. Alexis Kougias was not present at the time of the attack on his central Athens office.A former football club chairman and a frequent guest on TV talk shows, Kougias caused uproar earlier this week by saying that the death of Alexis Grigoropoulos "was sadly brought about by an act of God."The lawyer also attracted the ire of the Athens Bar Association (DSA) which opened disciplinary proceedings after he issued a deposition claiming that the slain boy had a past record of deviant behaviour.The DSA is already trying to get Kougias disbarred for past alleged behaviour including punching a prominent gay activist in the face in a busy Athens street.Saturday's fatal shooting of Grigoropoulos unleashed a wave of anger leading to demonstrations, attacks on police targets and looting.The officer who shot Grigoropoulos claims he was trying to defend himself from a gang of youths and killed the boy by accident due to a bullet ricochet."Kougias will die of a ricochet," protesters were chanting during the latest demonstration in Athens on Friday.
